Rand Paul

Randal Howard "Rand" Paul (born 7 January 1963) was a member of the US Senate from Kentucky (R) from 3 January 2011, succeeding Jim Bunning. He was the son of Texas congressman Ron Paul, and he became well-known as a leader of the Republican Party's libertarian wing.

Biography[]

Randal Howard Paul was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 7 January 1963, the son of Ron Paul. He attended Baylor University and was a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine, practicing ophthalmology in Bowling Green, Kentucky after 1993; he established his own clinic in 2007. Paul was a frequent volunteer for his father's campaigns, and Paul ran for the US Senate in 2010 as a Republican Party member. Paul described himself as a Constitutional conservative and a supporter of the Tea Party movement, and he supported a balanced budget amendment, term limits, and privacy reform. In 2016, he ran for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, but he dropped out on 3 February 2016 after finishing in 5th place out of 12 Republican candidates in the Iowa caucus.
