Rana Saddam Hussein was born in 1969, the daughter of Saddam Hussein and Sajida Talfah. In 1986, she married Saddam Kamel, formerly her brother-in-law due to his brother Hussein Kamel al-Majid's marriage to her elder sister Raghad Hussein. However, in 1995 the two brothers and their two wives left for Jordan after the brothers were hired by the CIA and MI6 to give information about the secret weapons program of Ba'athist Iraq. In 1996, the two couples were allowed to return to Iraq, but Saddam forced the two brothers to divorce their wives before killing them. In 1997, her brother Uday Hussein arrested his two sisters for trying to kill him, and on 31 July 2003 she was granted asylum at the court of the Hashemites in Jordan after the Iraq War began and her father was deposed.
