Biography[]

Ramush Haradinaj was born on 3 July 1968 in Glodane, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia to a family of Sunni Muslim Kosovar Albanians. Haradinaj was the commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army in western Kosovo during the 1998-1999 Kosovo War, and he became a politician in the autonomous region after the war's end. However, his March and September 1998 massacres against Albanians, Serbs, and Romani led to his arrest for war crimes, but on 3 April 2008 he was acquitted. Haradinaj served as Prime Minister of Kosovo from 3 December 2004 to March 2005 for the conservative Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, reconciling the brutal war with the postwar period, and he left office in March 2005. He returned to serve as Prime Minister from 2017 to 2019, but he was forced to resign after the Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor's Office issued a summons for him as a war crimes suspect.
