Ramon Berenguer IV of Barcelona (1113-6 August 1162) was the Count of Barcelona from 19 August 1131 to 6 August 1162, succeeding Ramon Berenguer III of Barcelona and preceding Alfonso of Barcelona.
Biography[]
Ramon-Berenguer was born in 1113 to the House of Barcelona, a dynasty of Catholic Catalans. In 1131, his father Ramon Berenguer III of Barcelona died of natural causes and Ramon-Berenguer IV became the new ruler of the Duchy of Barcelona. In 1137, Pope Innocent II declared a crusade for the region of Andalusia in central Spain, so Ramon-Berenguer honored the call to arms for Christianity and led the crusaders. After defeating the Muslims, he was acclaimed as the "King of Andalusia", giving him great power and the nickname "the Great". He died in 1162, and he was succeeded by Alfonso of Barcelona.
