Ramesses I (died 1290 BC) was the Pharaoh of Egypt from 1292 to 1290 BC, succeeding Horemheb and preceding Seti I.
Biography[]
Paramessu was born into a noble military family, the son of the general Seti. He found favor with Pharaoh Horemheb and served as his Vizier and as High Priest of Set, and he came to rule Egypt after Horemheb's death. His reign, from 1292 BC to 1290 BC, was short, and some Biblical scholars believe that he was the Pharaoh who ordered the massacre of all of the Israelites' newborns due to a prophecy that one of them would lead them out of slavery.
