Ralph Neville, 2nd Baron Neville (1291-5 August 1367) was an English noble who commanded the army of King Edward III of England at the Battle of Neville's Cross in 1346.
Biography[]
Ralph Neville was born in 1291, the son of Ralph Neville, 1st Baron Neville. In 1346, he took command of a 7,000-strong English army which marched north from Yorkshire to respond to the Scottish invasion of northern England. He met the army of King David II of Scotland west of Durham, where he inflicted heavy losses on the Scots and captured King David. Neville then erected a stone cross at the site of the Scots' last stand, and the battle came to be known as the "Battle of Neville's Cross".
