Ralph Gurner (1906 - 1979) was an American auto mechanic hired by the Salieri Crime Family as their primary mechanic. He possessed a sharp stutter, which prompted several Salieri men to make fun of Gurner to his chagrin, especially Paulie Lombardo. Gurner initially joined the Salieri's for protection from the Ghillotti Gang, a gang of miscreants led by Billy Ghillotti, son of city councilman Roberto Ghillotti, as well as to get away from his abusive father.
Gurner formed a friendship with Tommy Angelo, a former taxi driver turned up-and-comer in the Salieri's. He helped Angelo link with his friend, Bobby Carter, in order to sabotage Martin Lichtenberg's car before the 1932 Chicago Grand Prix. He was later indicted and arrested after Angelo testified against Salieri and his family, with Gurner serving 8 years for multiple counts of grand theft auto. After release, he moved to Pittsburgh, dying there in 1979.
