Biography[]

Ralph Abraham was born in Monroe, Louisiana in 1954, and he was a veterinarian and US National Guard reservist before entering politics as a Republican Party member. In 2014, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, and he was staunchly conservative, even supporting banning LGBT people from military service. In 2019, he ran for Governor of Louisiana, but he was defeated in the Republican primary by Baton Rouge businessman Eddie Rispone, who accused him of being disloyal to Donald Trump during his service in the US Congress. He retired in 2020, and Luke Letlow was elected to succeed him; when Letlow died of COVID-19 before taking office, his wife Julia Letlow won the seat in a special election on 20 March 2021.
