Ragnall mac Somairle (1148-1198) was King of Sudreyjar from 1164 to 1198, succeeding Somerled and preceding Domhnall mac Raghnaill.
Biography[]
Ragnall mac Somairle was born in 1148, a son of Somerled and the brother of Aonghus mac Somhairle and Dubgall mac Somairle. On his father's death in battle in 1164, Ragnall succeeded him as King of Sudreyjar, while Gudrodr Olafsson's descendants were allowed to rule over Mann. He divided his realm, ruling over Kintyre while Aonghus ruled the north and Dubgall ruled Lorne. Ragnall and his sons were defeated by Aonghus in 1191, and Ragnall died in 1198; his son Domhnall mac Raghnail succeeded him.
