Rafe Andino

Rafe Andino (died 1905) was a Bolivian bandit.

Biography[]

Andino was born to a family of mestizos in Bolivia, and he grew up in poverty in a small village. He was forced into a life of crime to make enough money to survive, and he became the leader of a gang of bandits that was responsible for stealing coins from people returning from mines with profit. Andino divided the spoils with his fellow bandits, but when he killed Percy Garris in 1905, Garris' two guards Butch Cassidy and "the Sundance Kid" pursued them. They attempted to get the money back peacefully, but when Andino drew his gun, the two Americans gunned both of them down; this was Cassidy's first time in his long criminal career that he had ever shot a man.
