Rafael Aguilar Guajardo

Rafael Aguilar Guajardo (1950-12 April 1993) was one of the co-founders of the Mexican Juarez Cartel. Formerly a DFS policeman, he came to work for Pablo Acosta Villarreal before becoming the boss of the Juarez plaza on Acosta's death in 1987. He was murdered and succeeded by Amado Carrillo Fuentes in 1993.

Biography[]

Rafael Aguilar Guajardo was born in Mexico in 1950, and he became a leader of the powerful Guadalajara Cartel. He once worked as a federal police commander for the DFS, which was involved in assassinations and forced disappearances; he used these skills as a crime boss while leading the Juarez Cartel. After the death of his boss Pablo Acosta Villarreal in April 1987, Aguilar became the new boss of the family and made Amado Carrillo Fuentes his second-in-command, and the two worked with corrupt police agents and built up their power. On 12 April 1993, Aguilar was assassinated by a rebellious Carrillo Fuentes in Cancun, Quintana Roo, igniting a series of gang wars.
