Raetia was a province of the Roman Empire that existed from 15 to 476 CE. The region consisted of Switzerland, southern Germany, and parts of northern Italy, and its capital was Augusta Vindelicorum (Augsburg); the region bordered Germania to the north. Raetia was named for the Raeti tribe, the ancestors of the present-day Romansh people of Switzerland, and it was a Roman province until the Ostrogoths, Alemanni, and Bavarii conquered it in 476 AD.
