Radu Korne

Radu Korne (23 December 1895-28 April 1949) was a General of Romania during World War II.

Biography[]

Radu Korne was born on 23 December 1895 in Bucharest to an old family of boyars, and he served in World War I with the Romanian Army. In the years between the world wars, he rose in the ranks, rising to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1934 and Colonel in 1939. Korne fought in World War II on the Eastern Front against the Soviet Union, and he commanded the Romanian 1st Armored Division during the defense of Romania from the Soviet invasion in 1944. He refused command of a front against Nazi Germany and Hungary when Romania realigned with the USSR, and he was arrested for his loyalty to Ion Antonescu. He died of lung cancer in 1949.
