Racism is the belief that humans can be sorted into different groups and judge based on those groups; racism is often associated with negative stereotypes, prejudice, hate speech, discrimination, and even violence. Although ethnicity and race are different, the term "racism" applies to discrimination against people based on either race or ethnicity. Racism has played a major role in human history, whether it was the enslavement of Africans in the Western world, the segregation of African-Americans in the United States and Bantus in South Africa, the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, the Holocaust and the pogroms in Europe, and the proposed ban on Muslim Arab immigration to the USA under Donald Trump and the conservative US Republican Party.
