R.E.B. Baylor

Robert Emmett Bledsoe Baylor (10 May 1793-30 December 1873) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-AL 2) from 4 March 1829 to 3 March 1831, succeeding John McKee and preceding Samuel W. Mardis. Born in Lincoln County, Kentucky to a family of Hungarian and English ancestry, and the nephew of Jesse Bledsoe, Baylor was educated in Paris, Kentucky and served in the War of 1812. After the war, Baylor practiced law and served in the state house from 1819 to 1820. After relocating to Tuscaloosa, Alabama following his fiancee's death, Baylor served in the state house in 1824, in Congress from 1829 to 1831, and as a colonel in the Creek War of 1836. Baylor moved to La Grange, Texas in 1839 and served as a judge from 1841 to 1863. Baylor became grand president of the Texas Know Nothings in 1855, and he died in 1873.
