Quintus Veranius (13-57) was Governor of Roman Britain from January to June 57 AD, succeeding Aulus Didius Gallus and preceding Gaius Suetonius Paulinus.
Biography[]
Quintus Veranius was born in the Roman Empire in 13 AD, and he served as tribune of Legio IV Scythica in 36 AD, Governor of Lycia from 43 to 48 AD, Consul in 49 AD, and Governor of Roman Britain from January to June 57 AD. Rather than continue Aulus Didius Gallus' consolidation of Roman rule in Britannia, he focused on conquering the Silures of southern Wales, making great progress before his death. His successor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus easily finished the Roman conquest of Wales in the following years.
