The Quadi were a Suebian Germanic tribe who lived in Moravia during the Roman era. The Quadi and their neighbors, the Marcomanni, settled the region after the Celtic Boii deserted it, and the Quadi and Marcomanni fought against the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius during the 2nd century AD. The Quadi remained quiet for several generations as a result of their defeat in 179 AD, and the Quadi, Sarmatians, and Goths resumed raiding the Roman frontier during the 4th century AD. The Quadi later crossed the Rhine with the Vandals and Alans in 406 AD, and they founded a kingdom in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula.
