Punjab is a province of Pakistan, located along the border with India in the Punjab region of the Indian Subcontinent. Punjab's capital and largest city is Lahore, the center of cinema and fashion in the country. The Pakistani Punjab region is predominantly Muslim, with its 101,391,000 people (2015) almost entirely adhering to Sunni Islam and minorities adhering to Sikhism, Christianity, and Shia Islam. The region was Islamized during the 8th century when the Umayyad Caliphate conquered the region from its Hindu princes, and its Muslim parts chose to join Pakistan during the 1947 Partition of India, while its Hindu and Sikh parts chose to join India. The Punjab region is relatively liberal when compared to the other parts of Pakistan, with its people mostly adhering to Sufism.
