Punjab

The Punjab is a region of northwestern India and eastern Pakistan, with Lahore being the largest city in the region. Its name means "Land of Five Rivers" in Punjabi, referring to the vast amount of rivers located in the region. The region is also home to the Punjabi people, who speak the Punjabi language; in 1941, 53.2% of Punjabis were Muslim, 29.1% were Hindu, 14.9% were Sikh, 1.5% were Christian, and 1.3% were other religions. Since the Partition of India, Punjab was divided between Pakistan and India, with most Punjabi Muslims emigrating to Punjab, Pakistan and most Hindus and Sikhs emigrating to Punjab, India. In 2017, Punjab had a population of 172,004,636 people.
