Ptolemy XIV

Ptolemy XIV (59 BC-44 BC) was Pharaoh of Ptolemaic Egypt from 47 to 44 BC, succeeding Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII and preceding Cleopatra and Caesarion.

Biography[]

Ptolemy was the son of Pharaoh Ptolemy XII Auletes and the brother of Ptolemy XIII and Cleopatra, and he became a claimant to the throne following his father's death. After the death of his brother Ptolemy XIII at the Battle of the Nile in 47 BC, Ptolemy was proclaimed Pharaoh annd co-ruler by his older sister Cleopatra. He and Cleopatra were married, but Cleopatra became the lover of the Roman dictator Julius Caesar, and she was the only one with any authority. In 44 BC, shortly after Caesar's death, Cleopatra had her brother poisoned with aconite to replace him as co-ruler with her and Caesar's son Caesarion.
