
Ptolemy Alexander Reid (8 May 1918-2 September 2003) was Prime Minister of Guyana from 6 October 1980 to 16 August 1984, succeeding Forbes Burnham and preceding Desmond Hoyte.
Biography[]
Ptolemy Reid was born in Dartmouth, British Guiana in 1918, and he studied veterinary medicine in Alabama before becoming a surgeon in Canada and returning to Guyana in 1958. Reid became active in politics with the PNCR in 1960, serving as Home Affairs Minister from 1964 to 1966, Finance Minister from 1967 to 1970, and Agriculture Minister from 1970 to 1974 and as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1984. He retired to become a farmer, and he died in 2003.
