The Prussian Coup occurred from 17 to 20 July 1932 when German president Paul von Hindenburg stripped the Free State of Prussia of its status as a German state due to clashes between fascists and communists in the state during the November Revolution. On 17 July 1932, 18 people were killed in a shootout between the Nazi Party's SA paramilitary wing and members of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD), leading to violent unrest in Prussia. Hindenburg dismissed the cabinet of Prussia, ending Franz von Papen's hopes of having nationalist rule in the Weimar Republic. The coup would allow for the Nazi Party to seize power a year later.
