Provence

Provence is a historical province of southeastern France, located between the Rhone River to the west and the border with Italy to the east; the region's nothern border was marked by the Alps, while it touched the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Its name comes from the Roman Empire's Gallic province of Provincia Romana, and its largest city is Marseille. It has a distinct cultural and linguistic identity, primarily inhabited by Occitans.
