Flag of Bohemia and Moravia

The Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia was a Czech-majority region of Nazi Germany established on 16 March 1939 by Adolf Hitler in Prague Castle. While the Slovak Republic in the east became an independent puppet state of Germany, Bohemia and Moravia became a protectorate, nominally led by the former President of Czechoslovakia Emil Hacha, but in reality being controlled by Reich Protectors Konstantin von Neurath (1939-1941), Reinhard Heydrich (1941-1942), Kurt Daluege (1942-1943), and Wilhelm Frick (1943-1945). The protectorate was liberated by the US Army and the Red Army with the capture of Prague on 11 May 1945, days after the surrender of most German forces. In 1939, the region had a population of 7,380,000 people.
