The Project at Eden's Gate, also known as the Peggies, was a Christian fundamentalist cult and armed paramilitary group which was founded by Joseph Seed in Rome, Georgia during the early 1990s. Seed claimed to have received revelations from God through "The Voice" and warned of "The Collapse", an imminent societal collapse which the faithful could avoid through joining him and his community. Seed's original congregation met at a slaughterhouse in Rome, Georgia, attracting the marginalized and indoctrinating them with survivalist and collectivist views. After the police began an investigation of Seed and his brothers Jacob and John Seed, the Seed family and their followers relocated to Hope County, Montana, where they used their considerable wealth to buy up most of the county's land, bribe the local police department, arm themselves, and turn the rural county into a cult stronghold. In September 2018, an attempted police crackdown on the cult led to a small war for control of the county, with the police working with local residents from "the Resistance" to bring down the Cult.
