The Progressive Socialist Party is a democratic socialist political party in Lebanon. Founded on 5 January 1949 by Kamal Jumblatt, the PSP was led and mostly supported by the Druze people, being a sectarian party despite its secular and anti-sectarian stance. The PSP led the leftists in the initial stages of the Lebanese Civil War, and when its leader was murdered in 1977, his son Walid Jumblatt became the new leader. It held 11/128 seats in the Parliament of Lebanon and 2/24 seats in the cabinet of Lebanon, and it joined the March 14 Alliance, having an anti-Syria stance and supporting rebellion against Bashar al-Assad's government.
