The Progressive Constitutionalist Party (PCP), also known as the Maderistas, was a liberal political party in Mexico which was founded in 1911 by Francisco Vazquez Gomez. The PCP was the successor of Francisco I. Madero's Anti-Reelectionist Party, and it sought to restore the supremacy of the 1857 constitution and the rule of law after 30 years of the Porfiriato. From 1911 to 1913, the PCP controlled the executive branch under Madero, and they also won several local and municipal elections; from 1912 to 1913, they held a majority in Congress. In 1913, however, Victoriano Huerta overthrew and murdered Madero, and the Mexican Revolution was soon endangered by Huerta's violent conservative reaction. Several PCP members went on to have a role in the passage of the Constitution of 1917, securing the non-reelection of the President as one of Mexico's guiding principles for the next several decades.
