Principality of Achaea

The Principality of Achaea was a vassal state of the Latin Empire which existed from 1205 to 1432, with Andravida serving as its capital. It was founded in 1205 by Boniface of Montferrat's generals William of Champlitte and Geoffrey I of Villehardouin, who took Achaea and Elis from the Byzantine Empire. The Principality of Achaea was small, consisting only of the Peloponnese, and it was forced to serve the Latin Empire as a vassal state during its struggles against the Greek Empire of Nicaea. The Achaeans were victorious against the Nicenes at the Battle of Prinitza in 1263 and the Battle of Makryplagi in 1264, but they failed to halt the Byzantine advance. In 1432, the Principality of Achaea was absorbed into the Despotate of the Morea.
