
Prince William, Duke of Gloucester (24 July 1689-30 July 1700) was the son of Princess Anne and Prince George of Denmark.
Biography[]
William Henry Oldenburg was born in Hampton Court Palace, London in 1689, the son of Prince George of Denmark and Princess Anne Stuart of England. He was their only child to survive infancyt, and he was styled Duke of Gloucester. His contemporaries viewed his birth as cementing the Protestant succession established in the Glorious Revolution. William was close to his uncle William III of England, who made him a Knight of the Garter, and his aunt Mary II of England frequently sent him presents. He suffered from ill health throughout his childhood and died from pneumonia after falling ill at a birthday celebration in 1700.
