Biography[]

Muhammad in exile
Muhammad was born in 1058 to Alp Arslan and an unknown wife, and he was a Sunni Muslim Turk. Muhammad was the half-brother of Malik Shah, and he became a prince of the Seljuk Empire, having a claim to the throne. Muhammad had a slightly negative opinion of his brother, as he envied his position of power, and he was also hateful of half-brothers. Muhammad brought shame to the House of Seljuk with his decadence, and Beylerbey Turan Shah of Kerman failed to get him to straighten up. Muhammad was considered a kafir for his decadence, so his brother imprisoned him and sent him to his dungeon in Qom. Rather than be cruel and execute his own brother, Malik Shah decided to instead strip him of his claims and wealth before banishing him.
Muhammad, now known simply by "Muhammad Alp Arslanoglu" without a royal title, was taken in by Bey Dogukan of Bam in southeastern Iran's Kerman Province. Muhammad had no claim to the throne anymore, and he lived the rest of his days as a poor man in exile.
