AdolfzuSchaumburgLippe

Adolf zu Schaumburg-Lippe (20 July 1859 – 9 July 1916) was the regent of the Principality of Lippe-Detmold from 1895 until 1897, for part of the reign of Prince Alexander of Lippe. He became involved in the regency dispute for the principality following the death of Prince Woldemar in 1895, and a secret directive from him was found detailing that Adolf should become regent for his mentally ill brother Alexander. However, Count Ernst of Lippe-Biesterfeld challenged this claim on the assertion the Prince Adolf's grandmother was of lower nobility and made him ineligible for the post. However, the Prince's bid was supported by the National Party of Lippe and an imperial court ruled in his favor, so he remained regent. However, in 1897 King Albert of Saxony ruled in favor of Ernst, who was also supported by the ruling Conservative Party of Lippe, so Prince Adolf was pressured to resign. Adolf was also the husband of Princess Viktoria of Prussia and therefore, the brother-in-law of Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany.
