
Marion Price Daniel Sr. (10 October 1910-25 August 1988) was a Democratic US Senator from Texas from 3 January 1953 to 14 January 1957 (succeeding Tom Connally and preceding William A. Blakley) and Governor of Texas from 15 January 1957 to 15 January 1963 (succeeding Allan Shivers and preceding John Connally).
Biography[]
Marion Price Daniel Sr. was born in Dayton, Texas in 1910, the brother of the Governor of Guam William Partlow Daniel. He became a lawyer in Liberty County before serving in the State House from 1939 to 1945 (including as Speaker from 1943 to 1945), as a lieutenant in the US Army during World War II, as Attorney General from 1947 to 1953, in the US Senate from 1953 to 1957, and as Governor from 1957 to 1963. Daniel was a conservative Democrat, opposing desegregation. He went on to serve on the Texas Supreme Court from 1971 to 1978, and he died in 1988.
