Pribigniew

Pribigniew (970-1028), also known as Udo, was High Chief of the Obotrites from 1005 to 1028, succeeding Mscislaw and preceding Gryn.

Biography[]

Pribigniew was born in 970, the son of Mstivoj and the brother of Mscislaw. He was baptized a Christian, but he was known to be a bad Christian due to his pagan ways. In 1028, he was assassinated by a Saxon who was disillusioned by his cruelty. Gryn seized power following his death; his son Gottschalk later rose to power.
