The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) is the second largest Presbyterian church body and the largest conservative Reformed denomination in the United States. It was founded in December 1973 in Birmingham, Alabama as a blend of Calvinist practice and broad evangelicalism, and it opposed liberal Christianity in favor of orthodox policies. For instance, the PCA disavowed the ordination of women as priests, believed that scripture was inerrant and infallible in all that it teaches, vehemently opposed abortion, believed that homosexual practice was a sin, taught that divorce was a sin except in cases of adultery or desertion, and believed that all worship should be directed only by the Bible. It was thus rivals with the liberal Presbyterian Church USA.
