Pope Zephyrinus (150-20 December 217) was the Pope from 199 to 217, succeeding Pope Victor I and preceding Pope Callixtus I.
Biography[]
Zephyrinus was born in 150 to a family of Romans in the city of Rome, and he was made the new pope after the death of Pope Victor I in 199. Zephyrinus combatted new heresies and apostasies, and he also had to fight Emperor Septimius Severus' harsh penalties against conversion to Christianity, which intimidated new converts. He was martyred in 217 under Macrinus.
