Pope Romanus (840-1 November 897) was Pope from August to November 897, succeeding Pope Stephen VI and preceding Pope Theodore II.
Biography[]
Romanus was born in 840 AD in Gallese, Italy (present-day Civita Castellana, Province of Viterbo), and in August 897 he was consecrated as pope following the strangling of Pope Stephen VI. Romanus annulled all of the acts and decrees of Stephen, and his brief reign was a virtuous one. He died in November 897.
