Pope Orlandus

Pope Orlandus I (), born Berthalan "the Unorthodox", was the Pope of the Papal States from 1176. He succeeded Pope Marcus II upon his death in 1176.

Biography[]

Berthalan the Unorthodox became a member of the College of Cardinals after serving as a priest of the Kingdom of Hungary. With support from the Holy Roman Empire, Hungary, the Kingdom of Sicily, and England, Berthalan was elected as "Pope Orlandus of Hungary" in 1176 following the death of Pope Marcus II
