Pope Nicholas IV (30 September 1227-4 April 1292), born Girolamo Masci, was Pope from 22 February 1288 to 4 April 1292, succeeding Pope Honorius IV and preceding Pope Celestine V.
Biography[]
Girolamo Masci was born on 30 September 1227 in Lisciano, Marche, in the Papal States. He was originally a member of the Franciscan Order, and in 1278 Pope Nicholas III made him the Latin Patriarch of Constantinople. Masci was consecrated as Pope on 22 February 1288, and in May 1289 he crowned King Charles II of Naples due to his recognition of Papal suzerainty. He died on 4 April 1292.
