Pope Leo III

Pope Leo III (750-12 June 816) was Pope from 795 to 816, succeeding Pope Adrian I and Pope Stephen IV.

Biography[]

Leo was born in 750 AD in Rome, Exarchate of Ravenna, Byzantine Empire. Leo was elected as pope in 795 AD , and he succeeded the late Pope Adrian I, and he was consecrated on 26 December 795 A. Under his rule, Charlemagne continued his conquests in Europe, and on 25 December 800 he crowned Charlemagne as emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. Leo died in 816, and Pope Stephen IV succeeded him.
