Pope Athanasius II of Alexandria

Pope Athanasius II of Alexandria (440-496) was the Coptic Pope of Alexandria from 490 to 496, succeeding Peter III and preceding John I.

Biography[]

Athanasius was born in Egypt in 440, and he was ordained as Patriarch of Alexandria in 490 following the death of Pope Peter III of Alexandria. He served for six years, dying in 496.
