Pollux (1233 BC-) was the son of Zeus and Leda and the quadruplet brother of Castor, Helen, and Clytemnestra. The twins became known as excellent hunters and horsemen who sailed aboard the Argo with Jason and helped Jason and Peleus destroy the city of Iolcus to avenge the murder of Jason's father Aeson by Jason's usurping uncle Pelias. After Helen was abducted by Theseus, Castor and Pollux came to her aid by setting Menestheus on the Athenian throne, while enslaving Theseus' mother Aethra. Castor and Pollux became rivals with their cousins Lynceus and Idas after kidnapping their fiancees Phoebe and Hilaeira in 1220 BC, and Idas ambushed and killed Castor. Pollux killed Lynceus, while Zeus killed Idas with a lightning bolt. Pollux gave half of his immortality to his dead brother, allowing for the two to alternate between Mount Olympus and the Underworld, and becoming the two brighest stars in the galaxy.
