The Polish People's Army (LWP) was the army of the communist Polish resistance movement from 1943 to 1945 during World War II, and of the Polish People's Republic from 1945 to 1989. The LWP was armed by the Soviet Union and modeled after the Red Army, and the LWP took part in the liberation of western Poland and parts of Germany during the last few months of World War II. After the war, the LWP only saw action as a part of the Warsaw Pact force sent to put down the Prague Spring movement in Czechoslovakia, and it was disbanded in 1989.
