Podemos is a democratic socialist and a social democratic political party in Spain that was founded on 16 January 2014 by Pablo Iglesias, a former Communist Party of Spain politician. The party was founded in response to anti-corruption protests, and it supported direct democracy, poverty reduction, a basic income, withdrawing from some free trade agreements, promoting referendums on any major constitutional reform, and healing the environment. With 480,812 members, the party became the second-largest party, and it held 59/350 Congress of Deputies seats, 20/265 Senate seats, 5/54 European Parliament seats, 139/1,248 Regional Parliament seats.
