Pleasance

Pleasance was a town in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. It was founded in August 1883 and abandoned a month later following a brutal massacre on 17 September 1883 that claimed the lives of ten residents, causing the town to become a ghost town. It was rumored that the town was abandoned because of the plague or Satanists, who were widely believed to have been responsible for the murders of the 38-year-old Leora Yeatman, the 14-year-old Jessie Yeatman, Asa Hawson, the 66-year-old Amelia Curle, the 43-year-old Reginald Yeatman, the 15-year-old Jimmy Hawson, Daniel Curley, the 15-year-old Glen Yeatman, the 60-year-old Curtis Baines, and the 29-year-old Edmund Tobin. The town later served as a hideout for the white supremacist Louisiana Raiders gang, and the Arizona Kid killed several Raiders at Pleasance on the orders of Joe Bedford in 1898.
