The Plains Nations is a term given to the tribes of Native Americans that once lived on the Great Plains of the western United States from North Dakota down to Texas. These tribes were known for extensively using horses in hunting and warfare, and they were fierce fighters; they managed to hold off Spain and the United States from the early 18th century until the late 19th century. The Plains Nations included the Sioux (Lakota, Yankton Sioux, and Dakota), the Comanche, Cheyenne, Sauk, Arapaho, Kiowa, Crow, and Arikara tribes.
