Pittsburgh is a city in western Pennsylvania, serving as the capital of Allegheny County. The city was founded on 27 November 1758 after the British capture of Fort Duquesne from France, and the city was named for William Pitt the Elder. The city is located at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers, and it became known as the "city of bridges" for its 446 bridges; it also became known as "the Steel City" for having 300 steel-related businesses. The steel industry boomed during the 19th and 20th centuries, but the deindustrialization of America during the 1980s led to many people being laid off. In 2015, Pittsburgh had a population of 304,391 people.
