
Pierre des Vallières (14 November 1868-28 May 1918) was a French Army brigadier-general who was killed in action during World War I.
Biography[]
Pierre des Vallières was born in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, France in 1868, and he was raised in Dublin for three years during the turbulence of the Franco-Prussian War. Des Vallières graduated from Saint-Cyr in 1890 and served in the French Army in metropolitan France before starting World War I as a colonel. Des Vallières fought at the Second Battle of Champagne as an interim divisional commander, and he became a Brigadier-General in May 1916. In late 1917, he participated in the Nivelle Offensive against the Chemin des Dames, followed by participation in the fight against the German Spring Offensive in Picardy in 1918. On 28 May 1918, he was ambushed by a hidden German machine-gunner while driving to Juvigny to join his 151st Infantry Division, and he died of his wounds.
