Phillip Lee (born 28 September 1970) was the Conservative Party and Lib Dem MP for Bracknell from 6 May 2010 to 6 November 2019, succeeding Andrew MacKay and preceding James Sunderland.
Biography[]
Phillip Lee was born in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, England in 1970, and he became a doctor in 1999 and a general practicioner in 2004. In 1997, he became a member of the board of the Beaconsfield Conservative Party and ran successfully for the local council in 2001 and was elected as the Conservative MP for Bracknell in Berkshire in 2010. He was loyal to his party during most votes, but he did not support the High Speed 2 project, military intervention in the Syrian Civil War, or the legalization of same-sex partnerships (believing that it was up to the Church of England to support same-sex marriage). He was opposed to Brexit in 2016, and, on 3 September 2019, he crossed the floor to join the Lib Dems due to his opposition to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's handling of Brexit. He lost re-election amid a blue wave.
