Phil Rizzo was an American real estate developer and Baptist pastor from New Vernon, Morris County, New Jersey who sought the Republican nomination for Governor of New Jersey in 2021. Rizzo led the City Baptist Church in Hoboken, and, in 2015, he bought a $1.55 million home in Morris County and, two years later, sold the house to the church for $1.65 million, living in the house with his family tax-free. Rizzo was also a staunch Trumpist, espousing conspiracy theories such as the "Big Lie" with regard to the 2020 presidential election and the belief that Antifa was responsible for the 2021 United States coup d'etat attempt in Washington DC. On 8 June 2021, he handily lost the GOP gubernatorial primary to a more moderate Republican, Jack Ciattarelli.
