Petworth is a neighborhood in Washington DC. Named for John Tayloe III's 205-acre estate, in turn named for a town in Sussex, England, the neighborhood was sold to developers in 1887. In the early 1900s, the expansion of a streetcar line along Georgia Avenue to Silver Spring, Maryland made Petworth more accessible. Thousands of brick rowhouses were built fromt he 1920s to 1930s.
